The sensor measures the type, intensity of precipitation, and horizontal visibility in meters (from 10 m to 5 km) using the "Backward scattering" detection technique. Precipitation is discriminated between: rain (light, moderate, intense), rain mixed with snow, snow (light, moderate, intense). Made of anodized aluminum and supplied with a shielded multipolar cable, it has an RS232 and RS485 serial output.

Rocker rain gauge with piezoelectric reading
Precipitation detection is carried out by the mechanical rocker, which empties when a certain amount of rain is reached and consequently rotating in the opposite direction. This movement is detected by a pair of piezoelectric elements which act as impact position sensors. The electronic section converts the signals detected by the piezoelectric elements into impulsive signals, the frequency of which is proportional to the intensity of the detected precipitation.
