MeteoSense PRO – The right choice for professional Road Weather Information Systems

The MeteoSense PRO weather station takes advantage of high quality sensors, such as road surface analysis, low visibility detection and real-time environmental and weather monitoring. Netsens proprietary technology allows all sampled data to be automatically transmitted (using TCP/IP connectivity) with minimum latency, and presented in the Control Room using an advanced graphical user interface.. A wide selection of compatible sensors is available, for matching Customer’s requirements with specific sensor configurations:
Standard sensors: Anemometer (speed & direction) Rain collector (cumulated and rain event detection) Air temperature, humidity and dew point Barometer (air pressure)	Advanced graphical user interface

Advanced sensors:

Road sensor (surface temperature, road status, freeze point, ice detection, water film height)
Visibility sensor (fog, heavy rain or snow, smoke)
Radar Doppler precipitation sensor (rain, hail, snow detection and intensity)

Several addictional input channels are also available for integrating application-specific sensors or transducers (such as, air pollutants, water level etc.).

IceSense – The RWIS designed for road status surveillance

The IceSense version has been specifically designed for road status monitoring, and configured for critical situation management. The adoption of advanced road status sensors (measuring critical parameters such as road temperature, ice or snow detection, freeze point, salt detection and concentration etc.) is integrated with a robust real-time TCP-IP connectivity and a dedicated user interface, and defines a new standard for integrated RWIS solutions.

Data are displayed using both graphical and intuitive controls, and a synoptic representation highlights critical conditions to the Operators, allowing the Control Room to coordinate salt spreaders vehicles and providing them a real time feedback about the effectiveness of their intervention, by directly measuring road conditions.


MeteoSense PRO – examples of MeteoSense PRO stations

MeteoSense PRO operates in real time.

The TCP/IP communication with the main server is performed using the embedded GPRS/EDGE modem or using the LAN interface and external modem/router equipment.

Data are sent in real time to a Central Management Platform (CMP), where software processes are dedicated to connection management and data transferring from MeteoSense PRO stations, to database storage and to user graphical and analytical interface services.

The trusted software suite available for the Central Management Platform includes:

software process for connection management with MeteoSense PRO stations
data pre-processing and alarm generation process
data storage database
user interface software
data processing algorithms (average, statistics etc.)
alarm setup (email, fax, SMS etc.)

The modular system architecture enables easy data forwarding to external management platforms, integrating specific machine-to-machine XML based protocols.

RWIS station features

MeteoSense PRO weather station includes following equipments:

Main unit, in IP67 rated metal enclosure, with electronic devices for sensor data acquisition, GPRS/Ethernet communication, on-board interfaces (USB, RS422, RS485), power management and solar panel charging (if available)
Standard weather sensor set (including wind speed, rain, air temperature and humidity, air pressure)
(Optional) one or more road surface sensor, installed in the roadway and cabled to main unit.
Other specific sensors (visibility, precipitation etc.) installed on main pole.

Optionally, a photovoltaic kit is available, including solar panels and rechargeable batteries. This allows to better choose installation site and to reduce its costs, where no dependency from fixed power network is requested for normal operation.
